Last night, I appeared on NewsNation to talk about what we’re seeing unfold in Minnesota. Anyone with a functioning brain can see that what is going on right now has nothing to do with “immigration enforcement” or exposing “fraud.” How do we know? Simple.
If this were really about illegal immigration, Donald Trump and Kristi Noem wouldn’t be sending their good squad to Minnesota; they’d be sending them to Florida and Texas, where the illegal immigrant population is more than one million. The idea that illegal immigration enforcement is driving any of this is a myth.
Another talking point you’ll hear from the MAGA faithful to justify what we’re seeing is the presence of fraud. Those same bed-wetters have been conveniently silent about the fraudsters Donald Trump has pardoned. Of the 88 individual pardons Don The Con has granted, about half are for white-collar offenses such as money laundering, bank fraud, and wire fraud.
And then there’s the “he showed up with a gun” defense, mind you, Republicans have spent decades telling everyone under the sun that the 2nd Amendment supersedes every amendment and that people who show up to protests with weapons of war, ahem, Kyle Rittenhouse, are heroes who deserve to be celebrated. Those same propagandists keep saying the victim “brandished” his weapon when, in fact, the only thing he had in his hands was his phone.
Which just goes to show that what these hired thugs with a license to kill are really afraid of is a citizen who possesses the technological means to catch them doing exactly what they have been recruited and trained to do.
